It is the ultimate question: How did we get here? Was it by random accident, or was there an intelligent designer? Did the world as we know it take billions of years to evolve, or was it created in six 24 hour days? All of these questions center on the origin of the world. The way a person answers this question will reflect on how he/she lives life. It’s a debate that’s been going on for centuries: the Creation/Evolution debate. I stand on the side with the Creationists: An Intelligent Designer created the world in six 24 hour days. I know that if I see a watch, there was a watchmaker; if there is a building, there is builder. With the incredible design apparent all throughout creation, there has to be a designer. To state anything different is just illogical.
Evolution starts with the origin of the universe, which is known as the Big Bang Model:
The Big Bang Model is a broadly accepted theory for the origin and evolution of our universe. It postulates that 12 to 14 billion years ago, the portion of the universe we can see today was only a few millimeters across. It has since expanded from this hot dense state into the vast and much cooler cosmos we currently inhabit (Big Bang Cosmology).
I think this is ludicrous because it leaves a lot of questions that cannot be answered: When did the big bang happen? The evolutionists is not sure. Where did the matter come from? The evolutionists do not know. Why did it blow up? Again, the evolutionists is not sure. All of this is just speculation. After the origin of the universe with the Big Bang, life arose spontaneously from nonliving matter by natural, random processes (Noebel 119). The “life” evolved from the single celled organisms through a mechanism known by evolutionists as “Natural Selection”.
Natural selection is the mechanism proposed by Darwin that, through competition and other factors such as mutations, predators, geography, and time, naturally and randomly allows only those life forms best suited to survive to live and reproduce. By reproducing, slight variations emerge that ultimately make it possible for the molecule, cell, plant, or animal to literally self-create new molecules, cells, plants, and animals(Noebel 119-120).
Through millions of years of evolving, organisms became more complex and eventually became different species. When I think of natural selection, the first thing I think of is a car manufacturing plant. How many times will it take to run the same car through the plant until it comes out as an airplane? The argument is simply illogical. Sure, there are different breeds of dog, but that is just an example of microevolution (rearranging of the letters currently present in the genetic code). There have never been any helpful mutations that have added any new information to the genetic code.
The modern theory concerning the evolution of man proposes that humans and apes derive from an apelike ancestor that lived on earth a few million years ago. The theory states that man, through a combination of environmental and genetic factors, emerged as a species to produce the variety of ethnicities seen today, while modern apes evolved on a separate evolutionary pathway.
Again, where is the evidence that supports this theory? Piltdown man: The skull was found to be of modern age. The fragments had been chemically stained to give the appearance of age, and the teeth had been filed down! Nebraska man: A single tooth, discovered in Nebraska in 1922 grew an entire evolutionary link between man and monkey, until another identical tooth was found which was protruding from the jawbone of a wild pig. Hank Hanegraaff, in his book The Face That Demonstrates the Farce of Evolution, wrote this about Java man: all that was found of this claimed originator of humans was a skullcap, three teeth and a femur. The femur was found 50 feet away from the original skullcap a full year later (50-52). According to an article in the Knoxville News Sentinel about Orce man: Officials admitted the skull fragment was not human but probably came from a 4 month old donkey (Human Ancestral Frauds).
Creationism is the belief that God created the world and everything in it in six 24 hour days.
1 Thus the heavens and the earth were completed, and all their hosts. 2 By the seventh day God completed His work which He had done, and He rested on the seventh day from all His work which He had done. 3 Then God blessed the seventh day and sanctified it, because in it He rested from all His work which God had created and made (New American Standard Bible Gen. 2:1-3).
Everything around us is so complex, it is impossible to believe that this world evolved from chance. Look at the eye: The eye’s focusing muscles move over 100,000 times per day and its retina (only ¼ inch or less) has 137 million light-sensitive cells!(Lutchman) A person sees a building and realizes that for the building to be there, there must be a builder. The builder designed and built the building. The same is true of the universe. There is much more complexity in a single celled organism than there is in a building, and there was a Designer to design the organism.
Dr. David Noebel is the president of Summit Ministries, a worldview training camp, and has authored a number of books, including The Battle For Truth. In his book he presents the creation/evolution conflict very succinctly: “In the beginning, one of two things existed: mind or mater. Either a supreme mind has always existed and created matter and the universe at a specific point in time, or matter is eternal and formed the universe by itself. Either mind created matter, or matter created mind” (336). In schools today, little children are being taught the theory of evolution without being shown creationism, stating that would be teaching religion in government funded schools and thus unconstitutional. They also state that creationism is not science, but religion, when evolution believes that something came from nothing, it blew up, and became an organized everything. That sounds like a religion (set of beliefs) to me. If the children are going to be taught evolution, there should be time allotted for creationism as well.
The world is just too complex to have happened by random accident. We are not just some primordial soup that came from nowhere and decided to evolve. My questions to the evolutionist are these: Where are the transitional fossils to support your theory? Which evolved first: the digestive system, the food to be digested, the appetite, the ability to find and eat the food, the digestive juices, or the body’s resistance to the body’s digestive juice? The point I am making here: Evolution is speculation, pure and simple. There are no intermediate fossils; there are no helpful mutations that will eventually turn frogs into princes. The evidence for creation is overwhelmingly apparent in everything that is seen. To put one’s faith in a fairytale like evolution is like putting one’s faith in lottery tickets: faith in chance that is it. On my part, I will put my faith in an all-powerful, all-knowing Creator.
